Digital Dentistry

Smile design is the smile that the patient dreams of and wants to see when he/she looks in the mirror, in a way that is appropriate and natural, taking into account the surrounding tissues such as face shape, skin color, lips, teeth and gingivals, and applying it to the patient in a healthy way. Smile design is to renew the ideal smile personally by applying medicine and art together.

In other words, as the name suggests, smile design is definitely an application customized for the person. If this design is not prepared individually, it is not possible to talk about aesthetics. So that all people’s teeth are always the same with each other, which is not very nice.

Sometimes the smile aesthetics of the patient can be achieved with only teeth whitening, but for some, it may be necessary to intervene in a few teeth. In fact, smile aesthetics can be provided with support to the back teeth and cheeks of people who have lost their back teeth.

The harmony of teeth and gingivals with each other is also very important in smile design. The tooth and gingival should appear in the same ratio. It is quite possible to have teeth that are both more aesthetic and healthier with the fact that the two teeth in the front of women are slightly longer, in men, the teeth are distributed homogeneously and the teeth support the cheeks.

By recording some criteria such as the patient’s face shape, skin color, and lip shape when laughing, the physician performs a number of studies accordingly. Many tooth forms, tooth lengths, tooth array of the patient are determined first and a number of studies are carried out in the laboratory and rehearsal is carried out. The computer is 2-dimensional; it does not give precise information to the physician in terms of seeing how the work will look in the patient’s mouth when the patient laughs, speaks and turns on his/her side. Therefore, it is more beneficial to see the tooth form in the patient’s mouth with the measurement taken on the calculated model before the dentist makes adhesion to the patient’s teeth. This study is both more convincing, more realistic and a healthier solution in order to bring the physician to a conclusion.

Therefore, studies such as tooth color selection, model work, aesthetic design, gingival aesthetics are made proprietarily to the physical characteristics and desires of the person. As a result of this type of work, a real artistic work occurs and the person’s smile becomes unique. The most important assistant of the doctor in these studies is digital planning. Photographs are taken with digital planning work and all records of the patient are transferred to the computer environment.

The desired smile design is performed on the transferred records with the help of a special program. Various models are made on the photograph of the person, as if the teeth were applied to the patient, by working with many options. In accordance with studies, the patient and the physician decide together which model and which color it will be. Thus, the risk of encountering a surprise result is removed.
